Sometime it only takes one person to believe in you for EVERYTHING to change. That is what you get with a personal trainer. You get an individualized plan that combines your current situation, your life history, your workout preferences, and points you towards your goals. A goal without a plan, will stay a goal. Whether you want to add strength, lose weight, rehab an injury, clean up your nutrition, or just feel comfortable in your own body, our trainers can help you make a long lasting change!
You MUST be employed by the Cedar Valley SportsPlex to offer personal training sessions. Anyone that violates this policy will be asked to leave. Repeat offenders will have their membership terminated.

WHY DO YOU LIKE HEALTH AND WELLNESS SO MUCH?
Health and wellness is important to me because we are only giving one body to live in. We have to try our hardest to be happy with ourselves and work towards goals you want to achieve. When you are not happy with yourself, that energy rubs off on the people around you. Health and Wellness is not just exercise and diet, there is a mental and emotional aspect to it as well.
EDUCATION & BACKGROUND
Bachelors in Public Health with an emphasis in Wellness & Fitness, with a minor in Nutrition. In College I interned at a CrossFit gym and became level one CrossFit certified and that’s when I knew I wanted to do personal training!
TRAINING STYLE
I specialize specifically in weight loss and strength training. All of my workouts are written tailored to your specific goals! I train clients of all age levels I currently have a client that is 18 and one that is 69. There is no age limit on fitness! I also offer workouts for off days from training with me as well!
WHY PICK ME
You should contact me if you are looking to make some lifestyle changes, but do not know where to start. We can talk about what your goals are and come up with a plan together to help you reach those goals. Goals do not happen overnight, we will stay consistent together and I will be there for you as a personal motivator even when we are not training together in the gym! I love building relationships with my clients and getting to know their life outside of the gym as well!

WHY DO YOU LIKE HEALTH AND WELLNESS SO MUCH?
I grew up in a household and community where you put your head down and worked as hard as you could from sun up to sun down. I also grew up in a community where exercise, healthy nutrition, and sleep all got put on the back burner. By the time I was 21 years old I realized just because your skinny doesn’t mean your healthy. I started to exercise on a regular basis and have never looked back since! Quickly I realized I could take the work ethic I learned growing up and apply that to running, lifting, stretching, and nutrition. In my 30’s I would say I’m in the best shape of my life. I’m in love with health and wellness and I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to move their body. I learn something new about myself everyday.
EDUCATION & BACKGROUND
I got my AA in Education from Kirkwood Community College and studied Exercise Science/Leisure Services at the University of Northern Iowa. I’m currently the Fitness Specialist at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex. I’m a Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Corrective Exercise Specialist, Certified Group Fitness Instructor, and a Certified Nutrition Coach. I enjoy running, but I think I’m much more than just a runner. Whether I’m running, in the weight room, or at home with my family my goal is to be able to do what I want, when I want.
TRAINING STYLE
Lifting is like anything else, practice makes progress. Most of my sessions would be classified as high volume strength training. Instead of 4 sets of an exercise I prefer to work up to 5-10 sets of each move. As we get in better shape we’ll continue to fit more work into each session to maximize both strength and endurance. Every session is individually customized to make sure that each client makes progress each day.
WHY PICK ME
When I grew up we hardly had money to keep the lights on, let alone afford a personal trainer. I understand that there are a million things you could spend your time and money on so I PROMISE to always value your time and money like it was my own. If you want to feel inspired, motivated, challenged, and strong… Come to the Cedar Valley SportsPlex!
CHELSEY BOWERMASTER
WHY DO YOU LIKE HEALTH AND WELLNESS SO MUCH?
I am passionate about helping others achieve their defined quality of life. I grew up on a farm, spending most days riding horses and playing outside. My mom worked for many years at a fitness facility, and when I was 13, I started lifting weights to become a stronger runner — I can’t imagine life without fitness. I think our best potential is achieved when we actively move toward seemingly impossible goals. Quality of life is only achieved through consistency and active steps towards being better each day.
EDUCATION & BACKGROUND
I graduated from the University of Iowa with my Bachelors Degree. I have certifications and experience in clinical health coaching, personal training, cardiac rehabilitation, exercise for oncology patients, diabetes prevention, endurance sport injury prevention and post-surgical therapy exercise. Personally, I am a wife, mom and marathoner/endurance athlete pursuing my next PR goal of sub 3:10 in the marathon.
TRAINING STYLE
Every unique and individual story requires a different prescription, technique and the ability to be flexible to reach goals. My experience in working with all ages, sizes and physical abilities has taught me to be flexible in my method of training — and I believe everyone can benefit from coaching! I pursue a holistic (whole body) approach: sleep, stress, environment and nutrition are all parts of fitness, too.
WHY PICK ME
I am a lifelong learner, and am dedicated to accountability both in/outside of the gym. Nutrition, sleep, stress levels and environment are all key elements to a healthy and full life. My goal as a fitness leader is to help establish healthy habits, routine and success. Today is the day – take the step! “As long as you believe what you’re doing is meaningful, you can cut through fear and exhaustion and take the next step.” – Arlene Blum

WHY DO YOU LIKE HEALTH AND WELLNESS SO MUCH?
Throughout my four years of high school I always enjoyed strength & conditioning and enjoyed being active. Health and Wellness has helped me learn how to be persistent and disciplined in all areas of my life. It helped build my self confidence and find a sense of belonging.
EDUCATION & BACKGROUND
I consistently lifted all four years of high school and kept working out after I graduated. I’m currently a college student at Hawkeye and am learning more about fitness and health every semester through the movement exercise science program. I’ve been able to share my knowledge with my friends and loved ones and have had the pleasure of getting them to their desired goals.
TRAINING STYLE
My training style is more focused on strength and endurance training. Everyone has their own personal desired goals and I’d love to help people on their journey in the gym. Weight lifting and athleticism are key components in my personal training journey.
WHY PICK ME
I remember when I first started lifting outside of my school and recall how intimidating and challenging the gym was for me. I hope to help other women become comfortable and confident in the gym, as well as educate them about working out and the benefits it has on our health. Working out is significantly different for women so helping other women achieve their goals and feel comfortable and beautiful in their own bodies is a huge passion of mine.

WHY DO YOU LIKE HEALTH AND WELLNESS SO MUCH?
Working in the medical field I have seen firsthand the need for more awareness of general health and the actions to take to improve overall wellness. I am a firm believer that better health leads to a better life. Exercising and living an active lifestyle has helped me gain mental clarity, sustained energy throughout the day, and engage in my hobbies, my role as a father, athlete, and in my career. Helping others experience these outcomes is what drives me and gives me fulfillment.
EDUCATION & BACKGROUND
I received a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Southern Utah University. I then went on to earn a Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy from Allen College and currently practice as an Occupational Therapist here locally. With an education and understanding of rehabilitation and injury prevention, I bring a unique skillset to personal training. I thrive working with others in a one-on-one setting and helping others achieve their personal goals.
TRAINING STYLE
I believe there are foundational principles of health and wellness but believe there are many methods and avenues to reach your fitness goals. I want to help you find a passion for fitness in whatever drives you to be the best version of yourself and reach your goals. I focus on creating individualized workout programs that are effective and sustainable. I prioritize functional fitness while helping clients develop strength, mobility, and endurance that translate to everyday life. Training sessions are tailored to each client’s goal and fitness level.
WHY PICK ME
Having a family of my own, I understand first hand that life can be busy and chaotic. I’m a firm believer in balance and I believe that with a little coaching and small changes, you can reach your health and wellness goals. I strive to help individuals become active in types of exercises that bring them joy. Functional fitness may look different based on the individual, but I’m a firm believer that anyone can improve their level of fitness and improve their overall quality of life. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert I’d love to help you with your fitness journey!

Why do you like health and wellness so much?
In most of my life, I led an unhealthy lifestyle. It wasn’t until later that I was introduced to the concept of health and wellness. After being obese for so long, I realized the importance of living a healthy life. I got to experience both sides of the coin. Health and wellness are crucial to me because I believe they are the foundation for a higher quality of life. A healthy lifestyle will not only help improve your physique but also improve your mental well-being. Without fitness, I don’t know where I would be.
Education & background
I was born in Iowa but I was raised in Minnesota since I was 4 years old. After graduating from high school, I went into business, opening a moving labor company which did well for a while. When COVID hit, I had to find other opportunities and that’s when I decided to move back to Iowa. During the transition and trying to figure out what’s next for my life, I discovered a passion for fitness. I started losing weight that I’d been carrying my whole life and eventually lost over 50lbs not once, but twice. That’s when I realized that fitness was a true passion of mine and I wanted to help others experience the same transformation I had in the 3 years of working out. This led me to enrolling and completing the National Sports Academy of Science, intending to help other people change their bodies and lives!
Training style
As a trainer, my approach is flexible and tailored to fit the unique needs and goals of each of my clients. I believe in creating personalized workout plans that take into account individual preferences, limitations, and fitness levels. Whether you’re looking to lose, build muscle, improve flexibility, or simply boost your overall health, I will work with you to design a program that is both effective and enjoyable. My goal is to empower you to reach your full potential and achieve lasting results in a way that fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.

ANNA VAN GUNDY
Why I love fitness:
I have always lived an active life style since I can remember. My love for exercise started in high school when I regularly attended kick boxing. The mental focus, stamina, energy, confidence, and stress relief was what won me over. Intentional movement and exercise are my primary outlets for coping with life’s everyday stressors. Fitness is not just about looking good it is about feeling good, and supercharging your mental resilience. I couldn’t imagine fitness, and wellness not being a part of my life style. Exercise has helped me develop success traits such as: work ethic, discipline, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment. Fitness classes are where my journey started.
Education and background:
After graduating high school I became a group exercise instructor. Teaching kickboxing, circuit weight training, and cardio dance, while attending La James International College with a focus on cosmetology. I furthered my education at Iowa Central Community College where I graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Health and Beauty Management. As a fitness instructor, I specialize in teaching bootcamp, core focus, and aqua fitness. I have always had a passion to help others feel beautiful and be the best version of themselves.
Training style:
I strive to create an environment and program unique to each clients desires, goals, and abilities. Fitness is about measuring success by how you feel not by the scale. It is about improving physical, mental and emotional health. Strength training can often be a foundational starting point. It makes an impact, both for weight loss and from a performance perspective. I like to start light and build up weight and repetition as we work closer towards your goals.
Why choose me:
My job as a trainer is to join you on your personal journey and to assist you with building a routine that is realistic and sustainable. I will also combine the exercise and nutrition plan need to enable the sustainment of your results.
I am ready to join you on your personal transformation to success. It’s never too late to become a happier healthier version of yourself! Let’s Go!

WHY DO YOU LIKE HEALTH AND WELLNESS SO MUCH?
Growing up, I played sports and music outside of my time in school. Eventually music took the forefront, but I knew I was missing that active and healthy life. As I grew up, I started to exercise on my own, learning as I went along. I soon realized how important it was to maintain a balance between everything I was doing–school, gigging late on the weekends, exercising, and spending time with my friends and family. Once I found that balance, I felt how greatly it impacted my health and happiness–something I think is of utmost importance–and I want others to be able to experience the lifestyle shift that I did. You don’t have to love health and wellness as much as your favorite influencer, personal trainer, or friends, but putting aside just a little more time for yourself will make your life so much better in ways you didn’t know were possible.
EDUCATION & BACKGROUND
I received my degree from the University of Northern Iowa in International Relations with a minor in music and French. During my time there, I spent a lot of time in the recreational center working on my mind and body. After learning so much about exercise and wellness outside of my classes, I decided to receive my personal training certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). It is my goal to share the knowledge I have learned through both the certification and my own experience to better the lives of others in the best way that works for them.
TRAINING STYLE
I’ve always considered myself very adaptable. If you want someone to support you as a friend through your wellness journey, I’m here. If you want someone to kick you into gear and motivate you like a drill sergeant, I can also do that. Within my training I will always stress two things–balance and efficacy–a program that will benefit all areas of wellness and the ability to happily stick with that program. It doesn’t matter if you want to train for aesthetics, endurance, or general wellbeing. I’ll do it, and I will always aim to push you just past where you think you can go, and you’ll quickly learn just how impactful it will be on your life.
WHY PICK ME
I’m a people person. I want you to succeed just as much if not more than you want to see yourself succeed. I’ll support you inside and outside of the gym. I understand that life is going on and getting to the gym may not be your first priority, but it is my goal to make that time and money spent on your wellness to feel just as important–because it truly is–as the stuff going on in your day to day life, whether you’ve got a 9 to 5, you’re retired, you’re a student, or anything in between. I will always put my whole effort into seeing you become who you want to become.
WHY DO YOU LIKE HEALTH AND WELLNESS SO MUCH?
Growing up and participating in athletics, being healthy has been an important aspect of my life. I personally feel better when I’m active! I’ve also seen people change their lives in positive ways by starting to live a healthier lifestyle. Not just physical but mental health as well. It’s a great thing to witness! Being healthy can be a confidence booster and even change your mentality about how you approach things!
EDUCATION & BACKGROUND
I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and was previously at Ellsworth Community College. I played football at both these schools and have since been playing arena football professionally. I also coach 7v7 youth football and train athletes in the offseason, for their sports. They range from elementary school students to adults. This has allowed me to see multiple perspectives! When I train with others or even by myself, I have included weight equipment but also more cardio based exercises, so I am familiar with both!
TRAINING STYLE
Because every person is different, I adjust to suit you as best as I can. Working with someone one-on-one is great but as an athlete myself, I recognize that some people like being in small groups too. I love this as well because there is someone else to motivate you! Workouts aren’t necessarily tailored to your “strengths” but to your needs. Sure, everyone’s goals are different but we want to get better overall and not be overworked or imbalanced in an area.
WHY PICK ME
I want to see you win. Everyone has a different style of what works best for them and I want to help you reach the goals you have set for yourself! I’ll help you in any way I can, even if that means pointing you in the direction of another trainer or someone who could give insight that can help you better than I can. At the end of the day, it’s YOUR fitness journey. I want YOU to succeed. If you win, we all win really. That’s why we’re here!
