Why do you like health and wellness so much?
Health and wellness is important to me because we are only giving one body to live in. We have to try our hardest to be happy with ourselves and work towards goals you want to achieve. When you are not happy with yourself, that energy rubs off on the people around you. Health and Wellness is not just exercise and diet, there is a mental and emotional aspect to it as well.

Why do you like health and wellness so much?
I grew up in a community where you worked hard from sun up to sun down. Growing up I don’t remember anyone exercising, eating healthy, prioritizing sleep, or really anything healthy. It wasn’t until I was 22 that started to learn that health and wellness wasn’t just for athletes. Quickly I realized I could take the work ethic I learned growing up and apply that to running, lifting, stretching, and proper nutrition. In my 30’s I would say I’m in the best shape of my life. It doesn’t come natural and I’ve had to change things up, but I haven’t slowed down yet! I’m in love with health and wellness because I think you deserve EVERYTHING that you get out of it! I learn something new about myself everyday.
What is your education/background?
I got my AA in Education from Kirkwood Community College and studied Exercise Science/Leisure Services at the University of Northern Iowa. I’m currently the Fitness Specialist at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex. I’m a Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Group Fitness Instructor, and a Certified Nutrition Coach. I consistently run 50-70 miles per week with the focus of running ultra marathons. I also strength train 3 hours a week with the focus on increase muscle mass. My goal is to not just be a runner, but instead find balance between strength and endurance.
Do you have a training style?
I would describe my training style as a balance between strength and endurance. I often like to start each session with some kid of cardio like rowing, ski erg, light jogging. After that most clients will be in the weight room where we will focus on strength. I would say my normal set/reps range would be 4 sets of 12-16 reps. I like to push clients to pick weights that make you strong with reps that improve endurance.
Why should someone pick you as a trainer?
When I grew up we hardly had money to keep the lights on, let alone afford a personal trainer. I understand that there are a million things you could spend your money on so I PROMISE that I’ll never waste your money or your time. If you want to feel inspired, motivated, challenged, and strong… Come to the Cedar Valley SportsPlex!

WHY DO YOU LIKE HEALTH AND WELLNESS SO MUCH?
I’ve always been interested in health and wellness ever since I was a kid. I was always looking up workout programs and researching and trying new recipes. I have always been active from a young age, constantly being involved in sports and activities but it wasn’t until my second year in college that I discovered I had a passion for fitness. I decided at the end of my sophomore year that I wanted to pursue exercise science as my degree and that was my best decision I made. I not only enjoy health and wellness for my own benefit and enjoyment but also for the factor of helping others achieve their fitness goals as well.
WHAT IS YOUR EDUCATION/BACKGROUND?
I am a Columbus High School alum and was born and raised here in Waterloo. I am currently in my final semester at UNI majoring in both Health Sciences and Movement and Exercise Science. I am currently doing my internship here at the Sportsplex as well as a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor. I am also working to become a Nutrition coach as well.
DO YOU HAVE A TRAINING STYLE?
My training style consists of both strength and endurance, it’s dependent on each client’s individual goals. The majority of my clients’ goals are weight loss ,strength training, and flexibility training. I typically start a session with a warm-up consisting of light cardio such as walking, jogging, or rowing and then follow it up by stretching prior to the start of strength training. The main portion of my sessions consist of strength training workouts and are followed by stretching and a light cool down. I also offer online training programs for those that prefer to workout on their own time or from home.
WHY SHOULD SOMEONE PICK YOU AS A TRAINER?
If you’re looking for someone to motivate you and push you to reach your goals, I’m your girl. Making the commitment for yourself is the most important part, I’m just there to support you and guide you along the way. It doesn’t matter what level of fitness you are at, I will help hold you accountable and provide you with varieties of different exercises that will lead you to achieve your goals.

WHY DO YOU LIKE HEALTH AND WELLNESS SO MUCH?
The importance of health and wellness was instilled in me at a very young age. One of 5 siblings that all played sports, nutrition and fitness was a way of life growing up. When I was a college athlete, I discovered my absolute passion for the weight room and exercise science. Digging deep and understanding how you can get the most out of your body to be the best version of yourself is fascinating to me. I truly believe if you pour into yourself by making sure you’re healthy both physically and mentally, then you can have a positive impact on those around you. It’s a chain reaction. Form a healthy relationship with health and wellness, be the best version of yourself, then you can impact those around you to also do the same.
WHAT IS YOUR EDUCATION/BACKGROUND?
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health with an emphasis in fitness and nutrition from the State University of New York at Potsdam. There I was a 4-year NCAA DIII student athlete, playing volleyball. I am a certified Personal Trainer and Certified Sports Nutrition Coach. I have experience coaching volleyball at the DIII level, along with managing team strength and conditioning programming at that level. I was a strength and conditioning coach at D1 Training in Asheville, North Carolina prior to relocating to Iowa. There I worked with athletes from 7 years to college aged and adults. I have ran adult classes, 1-on-1 sessions, and have experience coaching team training sessions for softball, baseball, volleyball, football, and soccer.
DO YOU HAVE A TRAINING STYLE?
It all depends on my client’s goals. Every session will have a structured warm up and cool down. Their goals will determine what the performance and strength segments will look like. How I encourage my clients will also be dependent on what they respond well too. I have found that majority of the athletes I have trained, I can push them more and have a higher intensity when it comes to coaching but I also have clients where I can adjust my coaching style to be less intense and focus on words of affirmation.
WHY SHOULD SOMEONE PICK YOU AS A TRAINER?
If you make this investment in yourself, I promise you that I will support you all the way through. I am committed entirely to my client’s success because as I have mentioned before if we can all work together to make this community strong and healthy then a chain reaction will occur. Building healthy and impactful relationships is why I love personal training. I love helping people discover the amazing things they are capable of and how to achieve their desired goals.
